Electro-house artist Deadmau5 -- easily identifiable in concert by the giant, light-up mouse-head perched atop his head as he performs -- has firmly entered the mainstream after about a decade of building legions of head-bobbing fans at festivals and on his own tours, playing to sold out crowds at venues like the Arizona Federal Theatre. He's kept those fans close by getting more than eight million of them to keep in touch via Facebook, where he regularly shares his musings and a steady stream of music he's working on. His music pulls from across the EDM spectrum, from techno to house to trance. Canadian native Joel Zimmerman, a.k.a. Deadmau5, was the first EDM artist to land on the cover of Rolling Stone, in 2012. That same year he also performed during the Grammy Awards telecast, marking the first time electronic music had been highlighted on the show. Fans who purchase tickets to a Deadmau5 concert can be assured of an overwhelming display of lights and sound as Zimmerman creates his tracks on the fly using computer technology -- including software he helped develop.

In an ever-shifting social landscape of elusive artists and their curated digital identities, ZHU is a unique voice making a name for himself - without ever having mentioned it.
In early 2014, the phantom artist released a series of songs, including a medley of reworked OutKast classics that quickly accumulated millions of plays after the likes of MTV and Billboard first reported about them. Ignited by word of mouth, his buzz soared when respected curators such as Pete Tong championed his records in the following weeks.
ZHU released The NightDay EP with the lead single "Faded," which topped Triple J and BBC Radio 1 as the most played tracks for consecutive weeks. A Grammy nomination capped his debut while Billboard and others hailed him as the Breakout Artist of the Year. ZHU's next project, the eclectic Genesis series featured credible collaborators of all genres including AlunaGeorge, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Skrillex, and more. With intense coverage from Pitchfork to The New York Times, the collection of six songs was a worldly experience appreciated for its immaculate attention to detail and groundbreaking sonic concepts.
