Do you order samosas or pakoras every time you go out for Indian food? In this chaat class (savory snacks typically sold at stalls or food carts in India, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh), you’ll expand your savory Indian street food repertoire! Fresh from her trip to Mumbai, Parties That Cook Chef Beth, accompanied by her sister-in-law Uma Memula Kale and Uma’s mother, Chandrakala Memula will introduce and teach you how to decipher ingredients and traditional techniques to prepare a variety of delicious and colorful vegetarian street foods.
Chandrakala (Kala) Memula immigrated from Nizamabad in Andra Pradesh, a southern state in India where the cuisine incorporates tamarind, coconut and curry leaves and leans towards the spicy side! Kala has been a passionate cook who has prepared many meals for the benefit of the Hindu Community, including many visiting artists from India and at the Cultural Center in Livermore CA. She takes great pride in starting with quality ingredients and creating dishes from a palate of spices rather than recipes. Her daughter Uma Kale believes in recipes and shortcuts! She will help those who want to create the dishes with fewer ingredients and less time! And Chef Beth will make sure the vegetarian recipes you learn can be duplicated in your home kitchen. We promise an explosion of flavors and a great time!
