Featuring world renowned DJs & artist emcees, this 8-hour dance extravaganza will help SF's legendary art space provide critical support for experimental artists
Join us on May 14th as The Lab once again attempts the impossible! This year's Dance A Thon will raise $35,000 over the course of 8-hours to support experimental artists. This year's contest will be a hybrid event, featuring dancers live at The Lab and beaming in from webcams around the world, with live and prerecorded DJ sets .
Last year's Dance A Thon raised $28,000 in artist relief funds through the support of 1K+ viewers and dance music DJ'd by Moor Mother, Grouper, Dan Deacon, William Basinski, Maria Chavez, Deerhoof, Matmos, Marina Rosenfeld, and more.
"Almost all my favorite performers and musicians found their voices in spaces like The Lab. These creative gardens need tending or we will miss out on so many amazing but yet-to-be-discovered directions performance has yet to wander. I'm excited this dance set can be a small part of supporting The Lab so that they can continue fostering and celebrating experimental performance and music." - Dan Deacon, Artist
The Lab gives significant funding, time, and space to traditionally underrepresented artists. We seek to transform alongside artistic practices in order to engage meaningfully with visionary communities whose economic and cultural realities have been ignored for too long, to the impoverishment of us all. In this, The Lab is a catalyst for artistic experimentation.
