CWC Speaker Series: Agent 101-How to Land the Agent of Your Dreams

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Why do some authors get an agent and others do not? Why do some manuscripts and pitches garner huge advances and a juicy publishing contract and others just languish? It is possible to create a successful career as an author, but there are hard truths about what it really takes to "make it." Authors who have been querying agents or submitting manuscripts and not getting offers will appreciate this session in how to improve their chances of getting an agent or a publishing contract. This session will also give authors a chance to evaluate what elements they possess and give them the tools they need to develop the elements they lack. I will gently and humorously teach what is needed besides a great book idea and talent. Tools to help with craft, market awareness, reader relationships and genre community will also be covered. The goal is to give authors what they need to improve their manuscript and pitch for their next agent or publisher meeting.

Amy Collins is an agent with the Talcott Notch Literary Services agency. With 30 years in the publishing industry as a book buyer, Sales Director for large non-fiction publisher. She is a USA TODAY and WALL STREET JOURNAL bestselling author as well as an agent, Collins is a trusted expert, speaker, and recommended publishing consultant. In her agent role, Collins focuses on non-fiction/ history, historical fiction, fantasy and sci-fi. She can be reached at amysadvice.com.

She is on the national advisory board for IngramSpark, a member of Mensa, a featured columnist for Writers Digest, IBPA, and a trusted teacher at conferences world-wide. She has taught and spoken at many of the publishing industry's top festivals and conferences including Scottish Writers Association, Publisher's Weekly's BookCon, Oklahoma Writer's Conference, Rocky Mountain Writers Conference, AAPS, Dublin Writers Conference, BAIPA, PALA, St. Louis Writer's Conference, Writers Digest, Las Vegas Writers Conference, and many others.
