Have you found yourself wondering how the dharma teachings can be integrated in your life and help you in relating with others? In these Awake in the World monthly sessions, we explore foundational teachings of Buddhism and how they can be seen in and effect everyday life. Through mixing both our lived experience with the insights from traditional teachings we will find them easier to integrate into our lives.
The fall 2020 series will be devoted to the study and practice of the paramitas, the enlightened qualities which provide the ability to be in the world and benefit others in every way. It is the essence of how to be a bodhisattva. As we begin to practice, we touch into a real basic goodness in ourselves. Practicing the paramitas is how we can personally and directly apply the teachings and become the change we want to see in the world.
As we go through these teachings, there will be a time to practice calm abiding meditation, which helps us to develop relaxed focused attention, emotional awareness and bring balance to our mind. As we progress in our development and understanding, we naturally feel and express more compassion for ourselves and others.
These sessions, offered on the third Saturday of each month, offer a supportive and kind environment that allows for us to share our successes and opportunities as we work with the process of bringing the dharma into our lives. Seasoned meditators will find these classes deepen their understanding and strengthen commitment to the teachings and practice. New meditators will find these centuries' old teachings relevant in today's world in developing contentment and resilience in their lives. Together we will learn from each other and engage as a community toward compassionate action within a divisive world. We welcome and encourage both experienced meditators and new people.
Please join us in this rich exploration.
