Creativity and Radical Self-Care: A Conversation with Marlee Grace and Julia Plevin

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Through her work on healing and the creative process, Marlee Grace helps people acknowledge their blocks and address them by setting distinct parameters that change their behavior. Whether we consider ourselves creative or not, her methods and ideas offer all of us concrete ways to break free from our devices and focus on what’s really important—our own aliveness. Her practical suggestions and thoughtful musings prompt you to honestly examine your behavior—how you burn yourself out by working all the time and why you’re doing it.
In her work and her latest book, How to Not Always Be Working, Marlee provides guidance for everyone who feels overwhelmed and anxious about our hyper-connected world—whether you’re a corporate lawyer, a student, a sales person, or a yoga instructor.
From business anecdotes about fulfilling orders to more personal stories about Marlee’s recovery from divorce and addiction, join her in conversation with Julia Plevin for an evening of wisdom and resilience, with plenty of discussion about ritual and routine as ways to create effective and positive creative life change.
Marlee Grace is an improviser and writer living on the rural coast of California. She works with improvisation as a method for navigating being alive and making work through dancing, quilting, writing, and podcasting.  Marlee also runs a community space and public studio called CENTER in Inverness, California.
Julia Plevin is an author and designer working relentlessly to bring about the world she wishes to inhabit. She's the founder of The Forest Bathing Club—an international community of individuals committed to connecting to nature as a way to heal themselves, their communities, and the planet. Her book The Magical Healing of Forest Bathing comes out next Spring. She believes that the medicine you need is the medicine you have to offer and created a nature connection accelerator as well as Mermafly—a hybrid design and healing studio to enable people to live their medicine. She has a BA in History from Dartmouth College and an MFA in Products of Design from The School of Visual Arts.
