Cops Vs. Aliens: An evening of Rock'n'Roll Film w/ CRIME 1978 Ziggy Stardust

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Two great music films plus live entertainment. Brought to you by Victoria Theatre, CRIME film and Amoeba Music!
San Francisco's First and Only Rock'n'Roll Movie: CRIME 1978. (35minutes, dir. Jon Bastian, 2018). Filmed entirely in 1978 this short "rock verite" about SF punk legends CRIME will have you on the edge of your seat. Imagine yourself hanging out at the Mabuhay Gardens near the white hot center of it all. You can almost smell the grime as the band pummels you with one of their finest performances caught on 16mm film and recorded/mixed masterfully. You'll feel ashamed after Dirk Dirksen spews his insults at you and the band but don't slit your wrists just yet, the night is still young!
This will also be the DVD and soundtrack combo release for above film via Superior Viaduct. Bring your ill-gotten cash as there will be some other contraband items for sale only at this show.
This film will be preceded by some preshow trailers an official intro and a short performance by Ron "The Ripper" Greco (original bassist of CRIME) who will help set the mood for the screening.
After CRIME film we shift gears and celebrate all things Ziggy!
Costume contest: That's right a Ziggy Stardust lookalike contest! Star people rise to the challenge. There will be a cool prize from Amoeba Music (our media sponsor). All phases of Ziggy welcome to participate. Contest will be judged by the audience applause-o-meter.
Professional live music with The Legendary Stardust Cowboy! "The Ledge". If you don't know where Bowie got the name "Stardust" from well now you do. The Ledge's unique musical stylings will leave you more breathless now than when he was on "Laugh-in" and "Johnny Carson" in the 60's. You'll be paralyzed with sheer delight! Also, he has a fantastic local all-star band backing him up featuring Klaus from Dead Kennedys.
Feature film finale: Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars(90minutes, dir. D.A. Pennebaker)
This incredible Bowie concert  captures Ziggy and the Spiders at the absolute pinnacle of their powers!  Filmed at the Hammersmith Odeon on July 3rd 1973 and subsequently shelved for 10 years until it's limited release in 1983 this film will BLOW YOUR MIND. It's a raw, handheld affair and thank god for that. Slick production takes a back seat but don't worry. This picture looks and sounds amazing and you'll be front row with absolutely bonkers Bowie fans (mostly teenagers), crying and singing right along with them right to the very end when he makes his big announcement. D.A. Pennebaker 1925-2019 was an American film Maker and cinematographer most remembered for "Don't Look Back" and "Monterey Pop" and much much more. Let's give this man some love!
