Convictions and Consequences

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Solomon Hsiang, Chancellor's Associate Professor of Public Policy, University of California, BerkeleyJon Krosnik, Professor of Communication and Political Science, Stanford UniversityGreg Dalton, Founder and Host, Climate One
A majority of the country believes that climate change is real, it is caused by humans and that it is a risk. But few believe it is a personal risk or that they personally will be adversely affected. Although the reality is that even those living on hills will be affected by flooding and those living in the North will be affected by southern droughts, a few will still come out on top. Solomon Hsiang wrote a paper in Science looking at the state and regional economies that will be winners and losers as climate disruption impacts agriculture, employment, crime, storms and human mortality. What does that picture look like? Will you be unscathed if you live on a hill in the Bay Area?
Jon Krosnick has been studying public attitudes about energy and climate for decades. He is currently working on new polling data on Americans who think climate change will hurt them in their lifetime, what they think government should do about it, and how much they are willing to pay to guard against it.
Join us for a conversation about what Americans think about climate change and how it will actually affect them.
Location: 110 The Embarcadero, Taube Family Auditorium, San FranciscoTime: 6 p.m. check-in, 6:30 p.m. program, 7:30 p.m. networking reception
All ticket sales are final and nonrefundable.
