Playwrights Foundation celebrates 45 years of investing in the next generation of playwrights at their one-night-only 45th Birthday Benefit: Constellations while being serenaded by live jazz and enjoying craft cocktails, dim sum, new work, and creative company. Playwrights Foundation Alums Lauren Gunderson and Star Finch will receive inaugural awards, in addition to honoring the life and career of Elana Dykewomon.
Playwrights are the foundation of the American Theatre, telling important stories that need to be heard. For theatre to thrive, so must our playwrights. Playwrights Foundation has supported over 550 playwrights early in their career through the Bay Area Playwrights Festival and Resident Playwrights programs including nationally acclaimed playwrights such as Katori Hall, Marcus Gardley, Christopher Chen, and recent Tony winner Suzan-Lori Parks.
Join Playwrights Foundation on 7/9 to raise funds and celebrate the outstanding careers of the following alumni honorees:
Lauren Gunderson, recipient of the inaugural Impact Award, is renowned as one of America's most-produced playwrights since 2015. Through her incisive wit and strong female narratives, Lauren fills a void in the traditional theatrical canon and is deeply committed to uplifting the next generation of artists.
Star Finch, recipient of the inaugural Launch Award, has taken the Bay Area by storm with her dynamic career. As the Mellon Foundation Playwright In Residence with Magic Theatre/Crowded Fire Theatre, Star's talent and passion have brought new perspectives to the stage in the Bay Area, giving voice to unspoken narratives that deeply engage the community.
Playwrights Foundation will also pay tribute to Elana Dykewomon, a celebrated author, lesbian activist, editor, and teacher. Elana's life and dynamic writing career will be honored during the evening and include a 10-minute performance of her play How to Let Your Lover Die that was presented in the 2022 Bay Area Playwrights Festival.
Individual Tickets starting at $75.
