ALSO! We'll be celebrating longtime member Amy Shelf's birthday with a DANCE PARTY after the show!!!
*ABOUT THE ARTISTS:
CONSPIRACY OF VENUS is finishing their 12th season (OK technically 11.5th? but who's counting), freshly back from their 2nd NYC tour, with some new arrangements to share with SF. Conspiracy of Venus is a 30-woman vocal ensemble based in San Francisco that explores the creative frontiers of music under the artistic direction of Joyce Todd McBride. Songs range from popular classics (Joni Mitchell’s “Big Yellow Taxi” and David Bowie’s “Life On Mars”) to edgy contemporary pieces (Bjork’s “Possibly Maybe”), as well as original compositions by Joyce. Drawing inspiration from medieval music, jazz, funk, and new music, Conspiracy of Venus takes vocal music into territories not often explored by more traditional choirs.http://conspiracyofvenus.comhttp://conspiracyofvenus.bandcamp.comGENTLE SPIRIT, formerly known as The Music Wrong, is the creation of San Francisco songwriter Marcus Stoesz. Stoesz previously headed the influential Kansas band Paper Airplanes, and is best known in the city of San Francisco as one of the directors of ROCK BAND LAND, a music and creativity school in the heart of the city. The self-titled album, due out early 2016, is a rumination in depression, grief, and the crumbling and reshaping of a relationship. Much of the material was written around the time Stoesz's father passed away in 2013. The songs, in contrast to Stoesz’s older projects, are often slow and sparse, reflecting the bleak mood of the subject matter. “Ram Van” is very indicative of this signature style, which recalls Pavement’s slower, more melancholic jams. “Sucker Fish” on the other hand is an growly, angular rocker reminiscent of Polvo or Dinosaur Jr. There are elements of psychedelia and dream pop as well. For listeners of: Pavement, Sun Kil Moon, Idaho, Yo La Tengo, Phosperescent, Devendra Banhart, Constantines. https://gentlespirit.bandcamp.com
