RAWdance's popular salon of contemporary dance returns this June, bringing cutting edge contemporary dance art to the opulent Green Room at the SF War Memorial. The 23rd round will mark quite the milestone for the CONCEPT series, bringing the number of guest choreographers to over 100 (101, to be exact)! With its special blend of high art and laid back, casual vibe, the series shares works-in-progress and refashioned repertory by veteran artists alongside newer voices in the Bay Area dance field.
For CONCEPT series: 23, RAWdance will be joined by five guest artists. Nichele Van Portfleet explores the dynamics of power and control in a tumbling, sensual, and physically intense work-in-progress informed by task-based games and scores. Lenora Lee Dance previews excerpts from "Beneath the Surface", an underwater, immersive, multimedia experience dealing with the subject of forgiveness, reconciliation, and redemption set to premiere in October. Natasha Adorlee’s Concept o4 shares a duet, “The Joy of Being with Another Person”, a meditation on the joy, struggle, and the transformation resulting from being together. The lineup is rounded out with new work in development from Sarah Bush Dance Project and Jhia Louise Jackson.
