On October 2nd from 10 am – 2 pm Gamble Garden celebrates our community with a fun filled all ages day. The day’s festivities include fun children’s activities, a gorgeous plant sale, horticultural resources, educational displays, garden demonstrations, food, entertainment, and of course… the highlight of the day – digging for worms!
On Community Day, earthworms are stocked in an unplanted area of the garden set aside for the digging contest. Children are provided with trowels in this heated competition to find the longest earthworm. After careful measuring, the length of each challenger earthworm is recorded and a winner announced. All earthworms will be returned to the garden to do their thing.
Don’t want to get your hands dirty with worms, try creating a beautiful bougewts at the children’ flower worktable. On and what a treat, all the little tykes can take home their arrangements.
The Community Plant sale is when the neighbors have an opportunity to take home a plant grown and propagated from our beautiful garden. There will also be music, food, displays and so much more.
This is an opportunity for the community to spend some time in the garden, meet your neighbors and enjoy some activities and hospitality.
“This event is free and open to the entire community. Everyone is welcome. Throughout the day we hope to entertain, educate, and inspire our neighbors, friends, volunteers, and families. It’s a chance for us to meet them and for them to get acquainted with the Garden”, said Vanessa Roach, Executive Director. “Gamble Garden is such a wonderful community resource, we just hope that more of the community becomes familiar with us and enjoys what we have to offer.”
