THIS EVENT HAS ENDED
[email protected] in cooperation with Veteran Services and RabbitBird are happy to present two days of coding training in the Python and SQL languages.  This two-day event is free and is designed to provide instruction about logic, error handling, data fetching from remote data sources, displaying data, querying databases, and coding.  We hope you will attend.
Class size is limited to 30 participants each day.

Course Goals:
The goal of this class is to give you a challenging, real-world and engaging introduction to coding. In true veterans style, this is not for the faint of heart and for those that like things to come easy. It will be tough for many, but the skills you'll gain will enhance your marketability in virtually any field of employment or study.

In this hands-on 3-hour class, International Trainer and Cloud Consultant Ryan Blunden will take you through a step-by-step process where attendees will build a Python computer program using the database query language SQL.

Dates:
April 16th - SQL is a domain-specific language used in programming and designed for managing data held in a relational database management system, or for stream processing in a relational data stream management system.

Location:  J. Paul Leonard Library, Room 121
Refreshments:  Coffee, Tea, Bottled Water, Wraps, Fresh Fruit, and a Hummus Tray will be provided by [email protected]

April 17th - Python is one of the most in-demand programming languages in the industry. It is favored by companies such as Instagram, YouTube, Google, and Spotify. Python’s diversity, adaptability, and its elegant, easy-to-master basics set it apart from other programming languages, making it popular for use in web development, machine learning, data science, scientific computation and cloud infrastructure.

Location:  Cesar Chavez Student Center, Rosa Parks Conference Center
Refreshments:  Coffee, Tea, Bottled Water, Wraps, Fresh Fruit, and a Hummus Tray will be provided by [email protected]

FAQs
The Basics:
In short, you don't need to be a computer wiz to learn from this curriculum, but familiarity with some computing concepts is required.  Here is the shortlist of necessary skills:

Know how to install computer programs on your laptop;
Install Python from http://python.org.
Ideally, you will have knowledge of typing commands at the Commandline (Windows) or Terminal (Mac). Watching a few YouTube clips before the class will help.
Brush up on your typing proficiency and keyboard shortcuts for copy and paste as you'll need them.
Patience: Coding can be a rewarding, albeit frustrating endeavor.

System Requirements:

A laptop computer with Windows 10 or MacOS/OSX.
4GB of RAM.
