Bring your instrument, your voice, your family, and friends! It's free!Enjoy piano, guitar, and violin demo lessons and our crowd-pleasing instrument petting zoo. Your babies and toddlers can try out a Musical Storytime and Music for Children class. Adults enjoy jam sessions and private lesson demos.

MUSIC JAM AND WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS WITH CMC FACULTY

Beginning Voice Class Demo with Michael MohammedLearn beginning vocal technique and interpretive skills in a fun group setting. You’ll gain experience learning to sing in healthy ways by focusing on body alignment, breath management, and vowel formation. This class is a free trial of the Beginning Voice class at CMC. Blues Guitar Workshop and Jam with Larry DunnPlay an array of blues grooves, variations of the 12-bar blues, looking at how to use the blues scales and these grooves for improvisation. Charts provided, riffs, and experts tips— with plenty of time for jamming!Embodiment and Expression for Musicians Demo Class with Sonja RiketSign up for a demo class with Sonja Riket, Somatic Movement Therapist who is a certified Feldenkrais® and Body-Mind Centering Teacher®. This unique course of study provides tools to free yourself from tension, pain and injury, improve your posture, breathing, tone and coordination. This can enhance your ease in technical proficiency, help you find a dynamic expression and creativity in performing, composing and improvising.Field Day String Orchestra with Loretta TaylorCalling string players! Join this pick-up orchestra made up of current and former CMC students and friends for an open rehearsal. We'll rehearse selections to perform at CMC’s third annual Field Day on March 17, 2019. Our Field Day String Orchestra, directed by Loretta Taylor, will play Karl Jenkins’s Palladio. No commitment to perform is required to take part in the workshop. All are welcome. Field Day Choir with Martha Rodríguez-Salazar and Jennifer PeringerJoin this pick-up choir made up of current and former CMC students and other community members—both children and adults for an open rehearsal. We'll rehearse selections to perform at CMC’s third annual Field Day on March 17, 2019. Our Field Day Choir, directed by Martha Rodríguez-Salazar and accompanied by Jennifer Peringer, will prepare sections from the children’s opera Xochitl and the Flowers, composed by Christopher Pratorius-Gomez; libretto by Roma Olvera. No commitment to perform is required to take part in the workshop. All are welcome. Please RSVP to Sylvia Sherman at [email protected] to participate!

CMC will partner this spring with Opera Parallèle to present the complete version of Xochitl and the Flowers on May 18 and 19 in our Mission Branch concert hall.
Mega Music Making with Rocksmith Remastered and Community Music Center FacultyJoin a team from Ubisoft’s Rocksmith Remastered video game in a demo that teaches guitar and bass skills complementing the live teacher experiences at CMC Sundays. Ubisoft San Francisco’s developers will be on hand with Rocksmith Remastered, showing how it’s the perfect companion to reinforce your personal lessons with a private instructor. From mini-games to help you drill techniques to our Riff Repeater tools that let you slow down and isolate trouble spots to jamming with your instructor in multiplayer mode, Rocksmith has a lot to offer to augment your personal path to learning guitar or bass! You can try out new techniques with a live teacher in a lesson demo or drop into the blues jam to hone your skills playing with others.Ukulele Jam with Sandy BrassardBring your ukulele and play in fun, group class environment. You’ll be introduced to some favorite tunes to play and sing along. The instructor will provide song sheets with chords. Open to all ages and levels of experience. This class is a free trial of the Ukulele for Beginners classes at CMC.
Vocal Performance Practicum with Jonathan Smucker and Martha Rodríguez-SalazarTo kick off the new year, it’s time for another voice performance workshop! Open to all singers and the general public, this is a chance to put one of your songs on its feet for a small audience in an informal setting, receive performance feedback from voice faculty, and rework all or part of the song.  Led by voice faculty members Martha Rodríguez-Salazar and Jonathan Smucker, and accompanied by pianist John Kyrk, it’s a great opportunity for students of all levels. (self-accompaniment is also permitted).

To register to sing: Pre-registration is now full. There will be a limited number of alternate slots available for sign up at the event. Come early and bring music to perform. 
To attend: no registration needed—come support our singers!
