Close Encounters with Daimonic Others: The Case of "Anne"

This presentation will focus on Whitley Strieber's autobiographical COMMUNION (1987) and the avalanche of letters it sparked from people who found in it a mirror of their own abduction experiences. Whitley's wife, Anne (1946-2015), concluded that the UFO phenomenon , rather than otherworldly technology, is about the nature and destiny of the soul. The alien "has something to do with the dead." Jeffrey Kripal will seize on this insight and share a series of recent events involving communications he and others received from anne, despite the fact that she is "dead."

JEFFREY J. KRIPAL holds the J. Newton Rayzor Chair in Philosophy and Religious Thought at Rice University. His writing and reserach seeks to put "the impossible" back on the table of the study of religion, offering a 'New Comparativism' to catalyze between the sciences and the humanities a more robust and even-handed conversation. Dr. Kripal has recently been mapping a "Super Story" of the mythology emerging from paranormal communities and individual visionaries. Among his many books are:
