Find a new sense of place in San Francisco through California clay color.
In this workshop, artist Rosa Novak will teach participants how to identify and ethically forage for local clays in a variety of California landscapes, including the coast south of San Francisco, the Mojave desert, and the Sierras. Learn to use local clay as a dye and as a paint for surface design and pattern on cotton. Participants will dye silk and cotton samples in a selection of California dug clays to arrive at a full land-based color palette, and use a clay of their choice for surface design on a provided tote bag.
