As a member of San Francisco Opera’s music staff, he has acted in capacities including assistant to the Music Director, assistant conductor, prompter and coach/pianist, and has worked on 40+ productions spanning the breadth of the repertoire, including Rusalka, Der Ring des Nibelungen, Les Troyens, and Don Carlo. Equally committed to new works and the development of the American operatic canon, he has helped bring several new operas by composers such as Jake Heggie, Tobias Picker, and John Adams to life.In the San Francisco Bay Area, he has conducted performances with Opera San Jose (Where Angels Fear to Tread, Silent Night), San Francisco Opera (Opera in the Park 2014/2019, Christmas with Sol3 Mio), and West Edge Opera (The Chastity Tree). Additionally, he recently made his conducting debut at Austin Opera (Ariadne auf Naxos) and was the cover conductor for the European premiere of Girls of the Golden West at De Nationale Opera in Amsterdam.Mollicone also performs regularly in recital with renowned vocal artists, including Denyce Graves, Andrew Stenson, Joyce El-Khoury, Brian Jagde, Ailyn Pérez, Nicholas Phan, and Jamie Barton, with whom he was lauded for ‘miracles of sensitive expression’. He made his Carnegie Hall debut alongside soprano Melody Moore in May 2016. He is a graduate of San Francisco Opera's Adler Fellowship, as well as of the Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program at Washington National Opera. He holds a M. Mus. from Boston University, where he studied with Shiela Kibbe.EDWARD "EDDIE" NELSONIn the 2019-2020 season, American baritone Edward Nelson returns to the San Francisco Opera as the Bosun in Benjamin Britten’s Billy Budd. He will make his role debut as Figaro in The Barber of Seville with Vancouver Opera and debut at the Opera Theatre of St. Louis as Dr. Falke in Die Fledermaus. In concert, he will perform Vaughan Williams’ Dona Nobis Pacem with the St. Louis Symphony conducted by Gemma New. Future projects include a new production with Olivier Award-winning director, Robert Wilson, and a new production of The Barber of Seville at the Norwegian National Opera. In the 2018-2019 season, he made his Opera Philadelphia debut in Ne Quittez Pas: A Reimagined ‘La voix humaine,’ where he performed songs of Francis Poulenc alongside Patricia Racette. He made a return to the Norwegian National Opera as Dandini in Stefan Herheim’s production of La Cenerentola and debuted at the Palm Beach Opera as the title role in Don Giovanni. He sang both Schaunard in La Bohème and Papageno in The Magic Flute with the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra at Boston’s Symphony Hall. In concert, he performed Carmina Burana with the Mobile Symphony and a recital of Schubert lieder at the Four Arts Society in Palm Beach. He made his Carnegie Hall debut with the American Symphony Orchestra in Vaughan Williams’ Sea Symphony and Kurt Weill’s Four Walt Whitman Songs. Recently, he made an acclaimed European debut at the Norwegian National Opera in a new production of Debussy’s Pelléas et Mélisande as Pelléas, a role he later sang with Opera de Oviedo and covered at the Glyndebourne Festival. He made his Washington National Opera debut as Maximillian in Francesca Zambello’s production of Candide and debuted the Michigan Opera Theatre as the Count in The Marriage of Figaro. He was also heard with the Milwaukee Symphony in Vaughan Williams’ Sea Symphony conducted by Andreas Delfs. As an Adler Fellow at San Francisco Opera, he made over 65 appearances on the stage of the War Memorial Opera House. In his final season as an Adler Fellow, he sang mainstage performances of Malatesta in Don Pasquale, Yamadori in Madama Butterfly, and roles in the world premiere of Dream of the Red Chamber. Other recent appearances include his first performances of Hamlet at West Edge Opera, Schaunard in La Bohème at Cincinnati Opera conducted by Louis Langrée, and a staged performance of Schubert’s Die schöne Müllerin at Chicago’s Harris Theater, in collaboration with Jessica Lang Dance. Mr. Nelson is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, the 2013 Tanglewood Music Center, and the 2014 Merola Opera Program where he sang the title role in Don Giovanni.
