Directed by Ernst Lubitsch
Jeanette MacDonald, Jack Buchanan
Countess Helene Mara has fled her wedding to the nebbishy Prince Otto Von Seibenheim with nothing but a coat, some lingerie and a little money. While unsuccessfully trying to increase her tiny hoard of cash by gambling she catches the eye of Count Rudolph Farriere. Smitten, but brushed off by the snobbish Countess, Count Farriere decides to get into her boudoir by disguising himself as a hairdresser. (It seems to make sense at the time.) “Beyond the Blue Horizon” became Jeanette MacDonald’s signature song after she starred in this funny, frothy pre-code film set in the glamorous world of Monte Carlo.
