Vanessa Hua, Yang Huang, and Kaitlin Solimine read Chinese Diaspora Stories from their work A River of Stars, My Old Faithful, and Empire of Glass at Odd Mondays, May 13, 7pm at Folio Books San Francisco, 3957 24th St. in Noe Valley. Free admission, free refreshments. A book signing follows the readings.

Vanessa Hua is a columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle and author of A RIVER OF STARS and DECEIT AND OTHER POSSIBILITIES. She received a Rona Jaffe Foundation Writers’ Award, the Asian/Pacific American Award for Literature, and a Steinbeck Fellowship in Creative Writing, as well as honors from the Society of Professional Journalists and the Asian American Journalists Association. The daughter of Chinese immigrants, she works and teaches at the Writers Grotto. http://www.vanessahua.com

Yang Huang grew up in China and came to the U.S. to study computer science. While working as an engineer, she studied literature and pursued writing. Her collection of linked family stories MY OLD FAITHFUL won the Juniper Prize for Fiction. Her debut novel LIVING TREASURES won the Nautilus Book Award silver medal in fiction. Yang lives in the San Francisco Bay Area and works for the University of California at Berkeley. http://www.yanghuang.com

Kaitlin Solimine is the author of EMPIRE OF GLASS, a grand, experimental epic chronicling the seismic changes in China over the last half century and examining the friction in cross-cultural relationships. She has lived off and on in China since 1996 where she was a Harvard-Yenching Scholar and a Fulbright Fellow. EMPIRE OF GLASS was a 2017 finalist for The Center for Fiction’s prestigious First Novel Prize and a finalist for the Community of Literary Magazines and Presses’ 2018 Firecracker Awards for the best of independent literature. Solimine’s writing has been published in Guernica Magazine, National Geographic, The Guardian, The Wall Street Journal, China Daily, and more. https://kaitlinsolimine.com
