SEE EVENT DETAILS
Children's Fairyland Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Celebration
Fairyland is proud to recognize and celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage this May with 3 wonderful weekends of community, culture, beauty, tradition, and joy. This month gives us the opportunity to affirm, honor, and uplift the vibrant cultures and complex identities represented within AAPI communities.

**Saturday, May 6 and Sunday, May 7: Halau Makana and Minnie Phan

Bring the kiddies and join us at the park for two days of very special performances by Alameda's only Polynesian cultural arts center, Halau Makana. Be moved like the water and go with the flow as you're invited to experience the traditional music and dance of Hawaiian, Tahitian, and Maori cultures.

On Saturday, May 6 ONLY, Fairyland is hosting a Book Celebration with Minnie Phan, a Bay Area-raised Vietnamese American illustrator, cartoonist, and writer. Minnie will read excerpts from her book The Yellow Áo Dài and delight visitors with an illustration demo. Following the storytelling and demonstration, visitors will be welcomed to a book signing and arts and crafts project inspired by the story.

Halau Makana performance: 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday
Book Celebration with Minnie Phan: 11:30 a.m. on Saturday only
Paper Doll Making Arts and Crafts Project: 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

**Sunday, May 14: Kularts Agos

Join us for an inspired and enlivened performance by the youth of Kularts Agos, a program dedicated to preserving Pilipina/o culture through traditional music, folkloric dance, and community education and empowerment.

1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Sunday only

**Saturday, May 20 and Sunday, May 21: Clara Yen
Come and be mesmerized by storyteller, Clara Yen. Growing up, she listened to the stories her parents told about their childhoods in China. Clara re-creates those memories, delicately weaving family lore with folk tales for herself, for her parents, and for her listeners. Stories blend English and Mandarin for an immersive experience all on its own.

1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday
