Join us for a literary event featuring three authors discussing kids raised in cults, recovering from authoritarian influences, and the relevance of this topic today. Memoirist Sarito Carroll, renowned cult expert Dr. Janja Lalich, and journalist Anke Richter will present insights from their books, which will be on sale. The discussion will be hosted by Dhyana Levey, who will record her podcast "Generation Cult" live at the event. We are celebrating the release of Sarito's memoir, In the Shadow of Enlightenment, detailing her upbringing in the Osho Rajneesh cult 40 years after the commune's collapse. Anke is an investigative journalist from New Zealand. Her book, Cult Trip: Inside the world of coercion & control is a haunting personal exploration into present and former sex cults around the world. Janja Lalich, Ph.D., is a researcher, author, and educator specializing in self-sealing, or closed, systems (cults, human trafficking, situations of coercive influence and control, ideological extremism). She can be spotted in numerous documentaries, podcasts, and news articles about controlling groups. She has authored Escaping Utopia: Growing Up in a Cult, Getting Out, and Starting Over; Bounded Choice: True Believers and Charismatic Cults; and Take Back Your Life: Recovering from Cults and Abusive Relationships. Janja started this work after her own experience in a political cult.
