The Derek M. BaylisThe Derek M. Baylis is one of only two 65 foot Wyliecat ketches in the world and built as a marine research vessel. She’s a fast, fun and exciting vessel to be aboard for events of all types on the San Francisco Bay.
Her mission is to provide an off shore marine research platform for the collection of valuable data about the oceans that the life that she supports. She also provides an educational venue for learning about the challenges facing the oceans for future generations. We plan educational trips for local schools and youth organizations, and the public charter program helps to pay for this.
She has been an important vehicle for tagging great white sharks off the Farallon Islands, whale research up and down the California coast and the deployment of unmanned research vessels (ROVs) to deep ocean levels. The DMB is wheel chair accessible. For further information, see our website
