Catalyst, a collaborative arts and mental health experience

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Styled for Wellness: Fashion and Mental Health

While fashion and personal style can be a powerful means of self-expression, positively impacting our mental health and connecting us to others, they can also be sources of anxiety and stress. Join Access Institute and the creative teams at düx styled and Steel & Lacquer Salon for an interactive evening where we dress and express ourselves in style, exploring themes of identity, creativity, and play, while attending to our individual and collective mental health.

An immersive evening of creative style will unfold on Friday October 20th at the beautiful and sophisticated Saint Joseph's Arts Foundation. Guests will be treated to a "salon style" fashion show with models dressed by Jackson Bowman, the founder and owner of düx styled with hair and make-up styling by team of artists led by Jarrod Aldama and Lena Garcia of Steel and Lacquer Salon. Additional collaborators for the evening include Modern Appealing Clothing and Fauxnique. Following the show, the creative teams will join Bart Magee, Ph.D. Access Institute's Executive Director for a roundtable discussion of themes of identity, self-care, self-expression, creativity, and connection expressed in the culture of fashion along with the inherent pitfalls: vanity, frivolity, and anxiety.

Guests will be invited to join in the creative process of "Creating a Look." Breaking into smaller groups and participating in live demonstrations, guests explore how we create a personal style through clothing, hair and make-up. Through this process, we will seek to foster the benefits to our mental wellness and keep an eye out for the risks.

Dress yourself and express yourself - come ready to play, explore and develop your most fashionable and resilient self!

Saint Joseph's Arts Society is accessible for people with physical disabilities.
Tickets $35. This is a community event open to all - no one will be turned away due to lack of funds.

6pm: Doors open - enjoy drinks + bites + music
7-9pm: Collaborative program

All proceeds support contributing artists
