Casting Rays: Mysticism + Astrological Aspects

SEE EVENT DETAILS
The classical handling of aspects in Western astrology is a far cry from the cold, mechanical approach adopted in pop psychological astrology. To understand the nature of aspects, a classical astrologer would first need to understand planetary phase and the process of combustion, the virtue and efficacy of each planet's celestial (as opposed to physical) light, and the mechanism by which planets exchange experiences with one another. There's a mysticism underlying astrological aspects that is all too often overlooked in modern times. Where did the mysticism go, and how do we bring it back? This workshop seeks to re-introduce the "why" and "how" of aspectual connections between planets to sharpen even the most experienced astrologer's symbolic toolkit. In this workshop, we will ask:- What does it mean for a planet to be in aspect with another planet?- Why, exactly, is a square harder than a sextile, and an opposition harder than a trine?- What are orbs, and how were they understood to work? Who or what sustains a planet's orb?- What does "void of course" actually mean, and how can we make sense of void planets in consultation framework?- What is reception, and what does it bring to the table?- How do we treat aspects to/from astrological points (ascendant, midheaven, Part of Fortune, etc.), fixed stars and the outer planets? To answer these questions, we will explore theoretically and practically (with chart examples):- Planetary phase and combustion.- Celestial light, orbs and the casting of stellar rays.- Mechanics of one-sided and mutual reception.Though this class is suitable for all learners, working knowledge of core astrological principles (such as the basic meanings of the planets, houses, and signs) will ensure you get the most out of this workshop as they will not be covered in much depth.
