What: Carnaval San Francisco, the annual two–day festival and grand parade that takes place in San Francisco’s Mission District over Memorial Day weekend, is kicking off its 40th anniversary season of events by hosting 19 free Fat Tuesday Mardi Gras celebrations at different venues in San Francisco on Tuesday, Feb. 13 from 6-10 p.m. The venues include Blondie’s Bar, Pop’s Bar, Make-Out Room, Latin American Club, Bissap Baobab, Zoe’s Bar and Restaurant and more. The celebration begins at Cha Cha Cha and proceeds to 18 other locations.
All are welcome to meet friends, family and neighbors in the heart of San Francisco’s Latino cultural district to enjoy live samba drummers, dancers winding through the party and lively music, from salsa and soca to cumbia and rumba. Guests are invited to wear costumes, masks and beads in celebration of the holiday. The parties are free and open to the public, but a percentage of any sales in the venues will go to support Carnaval San Francisco.
