A team of inner-city students from Kansas City, Mo., will explore the beauty and innovation of California's coastline during a dynamic tour from the redwood forests near Eureka to the white-sand beach of Carmel-by-the-Sea. MINDDRIVE will drive an all-electric Karmann Ghia from Eureka, Calif., heading south on Highway 1 en route to Carmel in June, 2014. Carmel-by-the-Sea is designated as the official site for the finale celebration on Wednesday, June 4.
From 4-6 p.m. at the Sunset Center parking lot at Eighth and San Carlos streets, there will be a free showcase of MINDDRIVE's Karmann Ghia, along with an eclectic collection of innovative vehicles from the past and present including: Tesla's original electric vehicle prototype the T Zero along with the Tesla S and Tesla Roadster, all-electric Zero Motorcycles, Chevy Volt, THINK EV, Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin, Porsche, Studebaker, Riley and Panhard among others. Using the theme "Technology + Art = Innovation," the display of cars will reveal how innovation drives the future.
In addition, Light+Shadow Fine Art in Carmel will host a MINDRIVE VIP event from 5-7 p.m. that evening at its gallery on Sixth Street between Dolores and Lincoln, featuring artwork by Thierry Thompson, widely known around the world for his incredible airbrush paintings of exotic cars.
The tour and the celebration in Carmel are designed to shine a spotlight on MINDDRIVE, where students learn through classroom sessions and through real world, hands-on projects, utilizing leading edge technology, innovation, science and communication, particularly directed toward sound environmental results.
