Shakyamuni Buddha’s mother passed away soon after giving birth. So, at a certain point in his teaching career, Lord Buddha went to visit his mother in the heaven – a temporary higher rebirth – where she was living, in order to teach her. So here we have an instance of Repaying the Kindness of the Mother, a form of expressing gratitude.
And so this holiday of Lha Bab Du Chen is a chance for us to express our thanks to Lord Buddha for returning back to earth after helping his mother and taking care of us by teaching the Dharma so we too can escape samsara and achieve enlightement.
So we will commemorate this holiday with a short talk followed by an abbreviated Shakyamuni Buddha Puja.
This will take place at the top of our property in the Wish Fulfilling Temple.
