While Valentine’s Day generally conjures up images of happy couples and romantic proposals. For some, the expectation of being in love or partnered intensifies suicidal thoughts for those who find themselves depressed and alone.
The Bridgewatch Angels will dedicate Valentine's Day to saving lives on the Golden Gate Bridge. We are seeking compassionate volunteers to greet everyone with smiles while bringing hope to those feeling depressed and suicidal. Our primary focus will be to engage individuals on the bridge who are walking alone, displaying negative body posture, or lingering mid-span.
The Golden Gate Bridge remains the number one suicide destination in the world. There were 31 suicides from the Golden Gate Bridge in 2018 and 187 interventions by the Bridge District Police, CHP and the Bridgewatch Angels volunteers.
Valentine's Day Bridgewatch will be from 2pm to 6pm. Register on Eventbrite and please include your email so we can communicate with you regarding logistical information (location, times, parking, rideshare options, and what to bring with you). We will also send you critical training information to help you prepare.
Volunteers should arrive to the Bridge Cafe (San Francisco Welcome Center) no later than 1:30pm. A mandatory orientation will begin promptly at 2pm so we ask you to arrive 30 minutes early to park and use the facilities/purchase snacks. The Bridgewatch Angels Trainers will greet you and provide you with the materials you will need.
After registering on Eventbrite, please select "going" on this Bridgewatch Angels Facebook event page to receive newsfeed updates with meeting location, times, parking, ride share options, and helpful tips to plan your day with us.
Due to the nature of the work and safety precautions, volunteers MUST be at least 18 years of age and must be able to volunteer for the ENTIRE event (2pm). Only ADA registered therapy animals with documentation are allowed on the bridge.
We would be very appreciative if you would share our Valentine's Day 2019 event on your social media and tell your family and friends. We love newcomers!
