The Bridgewatch Angels will dedicate Valentine's Day to saving lives on the Golden Gate Bridge. We are seeking compassionate volunteers to greet everyone with smiles while bringing hope to those feeling lonely, depressed and suicidal. Our primary focus will be to engage individuals on the bridge who are walking alone, displaying negative body posture, or lingering mid-span.
The Golden Gate Bridge remains the number one suicide destination in the world. From January-November 2017, 31 bodies of men, women, and children were recovered after jumping from the bridge. Another 235 came to the bridge to end their lives but were stopped by the CHP, Bridge District Police, and the Bridgewatch Angels volunteers. This is 51 more interventions than last year and the police need our help.
The Bridgewatch schedule for Valentine's Day will be 10am to 3pm . One ticket per person. Volunteers will be sent emails with information regarding meeting location, times, parking, rideshare options, and what to bring with you. We will also send brief emails pertaining to our safety protocol and best practices during Bridgewatch.
At 10am, Mia Munayer and the Bridgewatch Angels trainers will greet you in front of the Bridge Cafe (San Francisco Welcome Center). A mandatory orientation will begin promptly at 10am so we ask you to arrive 30 minutes early to park and use the facilities/purchase snacks.
After registering on Eventbrite, please visit the Bridgewatch Angels Facebook page and select events. You will find the Valentine's Day 2018 Bridgewatch event page. Select "going" to receive Facebook newsfeed updates with meeting location, times, parking, ride share options, and helpful tips to plan your day with us.
Due to the nature of the work and safety precautions, volunteers MUST be at least 18 years of age.
We would be very appreciative if you would share our Valentine's Day 2018 Bridgewatch event on your Facebook Page and tell your family and friends. We love newcomers!
