ABOUT Jill Boyd
After completing her Masters Degree in Forensic Science at Strathcyde University, Jill Boyd initially wanted to pursue a career closer to police work than whisky. However, that all changed while working at a small whisky bar in Elgin, call the Drouthy Cobbler. It was here she learned about the different styles and flavors nuances of Scotch whisky and this passion led her to a position with William Grant & Sons as a laboratory analyst where she was responsible for helping manage the day-to-day distillery analysis and running the sensory panel for the three distilleries. She held this position for three+ years during which time she completed the General Certificate in Distilling as well as running multiple experiments utilizing her scientific background.
When the Compass Box Assistant Whiskymaker position came up, she was encouraged to pursue the position and has now been with the company for two-and-a-half years working with their founder and Whiskymaker, John Glaser, on the continuation of the core ranges as well as developing new blends for their ongoing series of “Limited Edition” releases. Jill has now completed her Diploma in Distilling and spends her time between London and Scotland.
