Judy Holliday won an Oscar for her performance as Billie Dawn, the brassy show-girl a journalist (Played by William Holden) seeks to educate into some form of respectability. Harry Brock, her wealthy but uncouth fiancé has arrived with her in Washington DC hoping to arrange a shady deal with a politician. Fearing Billie is too uneducated for the DC set, Brock hires journalist Paul Verrall to add some polish -- but Billie proves to be much smarter than anyone expected.
