Book Reading & Community Forum
On the challenges and responsibilities of family caregiving

Who: Phoenix Commons host author of Holding the Net: caring for my mother on the tightrope of aging, Melanie P. Merriman, PhD

What: Melanie Merriman, author of the award-winning nonfiction book, Holding the Net: Caring for My Mother on the Tightrope of Aging, a memoir of a loving and responsible family caregiver trying to care for her aging mother, will speak and read from her book at our forum. Then we will ask a panel of other caregivers to speak briefly about their own experiences and after that open it up for questions and discussion.

When: Tuesday, August 14 7pm

Where: Phoenix Commons 340 29th Ave Oakland 94601 (at the foot of the Park St. Bridge)

Why: We are trying to fill our community dining room with folks who are interested in caregiving issues, either from personal experience or because most of us will get our chance to take on this responsibility, sooner or later.

Cost: Free and open to the public
