The premiere book launch of local poet, author, and playwright Elmaz Abinader’s new award-winning collection of poetry will take place at Sahara Import in Berkeley on Sunday, November 2nd from 2pm to 5pm. This House, My Bones, Elmaz’s second collection of poetry, springs from the imperative she feels, as an Arab-American artist and writer born in this lifetime, to give voice to nuanced characters and complicated moments that fail to be examined fully and deeply by today’s media.
Elmaz is an award-winning author, poet, and playwright whose works are inspired by the dislocation of her parents from Lebanon to the US, as well as dislocations, occupations, and disenfranchisement of other people in the Arab World and Diaspora. Elmaz will be joined by local authors Faith Adiele and Sara Campos who will each perform a short reading.
The event will be held in Sahara Import’s lushly decorated Moroccan Berber tent and will include music and a Moroccan tea service with light refreshments in conjunction with the artist’s book signing.
