Book Discussion: Fun Home, Award-Winning Memoir

SEE EVENT DETAILS
To help us cope with our families over the holidays, we are reading Fun Home, Alison Bechdel's terrific memoir which is published in the graphic novel format. Goodreads users voted it number one on the list of 100 Best Lesbian Fiction & Memoir Books Of All Time.

Alison Bechdel is the author of the terrific comics series Dykes to Watch Out For. Her first memoir, written in comic form focusing primarily on Bechdel's relationship with her father, who probably (but not definitely) killed himself, following decades of small-town life as a passionate house restorer/English teacher/funeral home proprietor/tormented closet case, shortly after his daughter's announcement that she was gay. In the book, Bechdel analyzes her memories, experiences and extant documents, and uses literature to try to understand her father and tell a story about her family and about herself.

Join the BDF Women's Discussion Group and the Library Book Club for our discussion of this fantastic, award-winning memoir. The Women's Discussion Group meets at the DeFrank Center every Thursday night at 7:30 pm for lively discussions. The DeFrank Library Book Club meets at the DeFrank Center on the fourth Thursday of every month (except during the holidays) to discuss works of literature and nonfiction written about, by, and for the LGBTQ community. For more information on these groups, please visit https://www.defrankcenter.org.
