The Black Choreographers Festival: Here & Now (BCF) celebrates its 20th anniversary February 22 - March 2 at Dance Mission Theater.
The first weekend features six seminal Bay Area choreographers whose diverse work, from contemporary Congolese to contemporary ballet, Haitian, jazz and modern, taken together has inspired countless audiences as well as fellow artists within the field. BCF is proud to present world premieres by Byb Chanel Bibene, Gregory Dawson, Robert Moses and Raissa Simpson, together with fan favorites by Portsha Jefferson and Deborah B. Vaughan.
The following weekend BCF presents its "Next Wave Showcase" featuring emerging and mid-career artists including Tara Bucknor, Gabriele Christian, William Brewton Fowler, Jr., Sriba Kwadjovie, dominique lesleyann, Natalya Shoaf, Dazaun Soleyn and Tamara Williams. Clarissa Dyas and Justin Sharlman were selected to participate in BCF's Artist Mentorship Program, to be matched with mentors Joanna Haigood and Soleyn, respectively, and each will premiere new works.
