'Bird-Safe Windows' Workshop

SEE EVENT DETAILS
at Private home in Berkeley (see times)
Was that thud on your window a bird, a plane or Superman? Undoubtedly, it was a bird!
Birds colliding with glass cause up to a billion bird deaths per year in North America. Most occur at residential and low-rise buildings. Even if the victims fly away, they usually succumb to internal injuries. Bird-shaped decals, while popular, are not effective at preventing bird strikes.
The good news: this is a problem we can solve! We just need to prevent birds from thinking the reflections of clouds and trees on your windows are real. There are several inexpensive, attractive exterior window treatments that help birds recognize glass as a solid object without significantly reducing your view.
In the workshop, you will view demonstrations and learn how to:
* apply "Feather Friendly" markers (small dots) to windows
* build bird-safe external blinds ("Acopian BirdSavers")
* paint delightful see-through designs on windows.
In addition, you will see examples of other easy solutions. In all cases, there will be an emphasis on the few key guidelines that must be followed.
The workshop is sponsored by Bringing Back the Natives Garden Tour, Golden Gate Bird Alliance (formerly Audubon), and International Bird Rescue.
Come connect with fellow bird and native plant enthusiasts while learning practical, effective ways to help the planet. You'll leave confident and ready to make your own home or workplace safer for birds.
Space is limited so please register soon.
