Presented by Kalanjali: Dances of India
June 23, 2019
Student Recital
A traditional recital of Bharatanatyam dances, the most ancient of India's classical styles, using rapid footwork and hand gesture language to convey the ancient poetry of love and devotion. this is a graduation performance in which the dancer steps from student to artist, and it is the custom to invite the public to share the transition. A beautiful way to get closer to India's ancient culture, and be treated to a feast of music by the best musicians who have come all the way to the US for this event.
Running Time: approx. 2 hours, with one intermission
Shreya Beri is a young dancer who has been studying Bharatanatyam for ten years, and presents a traditional recital called an Arangetram, in which the dancer "climbs onto the stage" for the first time to share her accomplishments with the public. It is a rite of passage for an artist, ready to move on from basic training into the challenges of being a performer.
