Begin the Beguine: A Quartet of One-Acts

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Be among the first to experience the never-before-produced theatrical work of the prolific but largely unrecognized Black playwright and filmmaker Kathleen Collins, with the World Premiere of Begin the Beguine: A Quartet of One-Acts, co-directed by Dawn L. Troupe and Michael Socrates Moran.

Featuring four one-act plays that fundamentally focus on the spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being of Black women in America, each of the plays reveals the unseen in revelatory, yet cutting ways, providing both profound insight, and the kind of mystery required for one to remain unquantifiably human. Collins' work is complex and striking, gentle and revelatory, powerful and resonant.

In addition to co-directing, OTP company member and Director of Education, Dawn L. Troupe, will play the central role(s) in all four one acts. The cast also includes Kimberly Daniels, Leon Jones, Benoît Monin, and Margherita Ventura.

Due to COVID-19, Oakland Theater Project's 2021 Season will be presented as Drive-In Theater performances. Audiences can experience the power of live performance from the safety of their own vehicles, with the sounds of the production transmitted over FM radio. More info about the Drive-In Theater experience can be found here: https://oaklandtheaterproject.org/your-visit

Run Time: 60 minutes with no intermission

Price: $25 - $50
Tickets: $25-50 per vehicle, online only; limited number of pay-what-you-can tickets also available
