Join other nature-lovers and Bay Area environmental leaders at the 12th annual Bay Nature Local Hero Awards. After a two-year virtual hiatus, this treasured event will take place in person at the David Brower Center in Berkeley on March 27th from 2-5 pm. (The Brower Center's strict safety protocols will be followed.) Virtual tickets may also be purchased.
The Awards celebration and Bay Nature annual fundraiser will be held in the Brower Center's beautiful auditorium, followed by an outdoor reception on the terrace (weather permitting).
Doors open at 1:30 for registration, vaccination card check, and opportunity to enjoy a wonderful new art exhibit Art/Act: Youth - Plastic Rebellion at the Brower Center gallery. Peruse Bay Nature's five nature-themed gift baskets and choose where to put your ticket for the free drawing.
Doors to the auditorium open at 2:00 and the program starts at 2:15. You'll hear from each of the heroes about their work and personal path and be able to support Bay Nature at a short but rousing Fund-A-Need.
Program concludes at 3:30 for a reception catered by ACT Catering: a local, woman-owned business featuring organic, locally sourced ingredients, and vegan and gluten-free choices. Enjoy wine from Frey Vineyards and beer from Alvarado Street Brewery. The event will end at 5 pm.
Be ready for plenty of fun! We'll recommend three self-guided (and two guided) hikes in the morning, a free drawing, and more. Please note that our guided hikes will have limited space--another reason to register early!
Early bird tickets are $150 and available until March 2nd. Regular tickets are $195. Auditorium seating at the Brower Center is limited, so we encourage you to register now. (When you purchase your tickets, you will have the option of in-person or live streamed.)
If you missed the fall announcement, this year's extraordinary local heroes, selected from 89 nominations, are:
* Community Hero: Richard Tejeda, Founder, Executive Director, Saved By Nature
* Environmental Educator: Megan Isadore, Co-Founder, Executive Director, River Otter Ecology Project
* Young Leader: Solwazi Allah, Watershed Restoration Field Crew Manager, Urban Tilth
* Conservation Action: Nonette Hanko, Founding Member, Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District, Board Member 1972-2018
