Bar & Cocktail History Hop with Top Drink Writer

Learn about San Francisco's cocktail history as we share stories, a short walk, and a sip. We'll meet near the original city shoreline where gold miners and the liquor to supply them were unloaded from ships. We'll talk about bars inside of boats, cocktail muddlers made of gold, and the opulent saloons of the late 1800s.

We'll walk to the site of SF's first famous drink, the Pisco Punch, and learn about its suspected secret ingredient. In the original red light district we'll discuss the great earthquake and fire of 1906 that destroyed almost all of the city and copies of its most famous bartender's cocktail book. We'll discuss how Prohibition did and did not impact the quantity of alcohol consumed, though the quality may have suffered. We'll walk the strip where the post-war boom brought sailors seeking sin, and talk about the birth of tiki and Trader Vic's Mai Tai.

We'll end our tour in a stunning 1907 saloon that still serves some of the best drinks in town, and share a small cocktail in celebration of our journey.
