Feb 16, 17, 23, 24 at 7pm
Coming this February, PianoFight and Catherine Liu + Artists present Backstage, a comedy-dance-theater show that takes you behind the curtain, beyond the wings, and back into the performers' dressing room. Featuring one actor, one choreographer, and three modern dancers, the artists experience each others' odd, quirky pre-performance rituals throughout the night. With awkward turtle moments and breaking the 4th wall asides, this multimedia play features choreography of gestures, full bodied movement, and a video to be watched in an unconventional way.
"I had done a piece with Garrett + Moulton Productions," says Catherine Liu, writer, choreographer, and director of Backstage, "where we had ridiculous cross overs, running madly from one side to the other multiple times. Deep in stress, I managed to have the epiphany: This could be a great piece just by itself! But I knew that in order to expand the cross over scene into a fuller length piece, I had to create a story. Thus, I wrote a script and my dance piece turned into a play."
The night also features two guest performances by Meredith Terry Vaughn and The Phenomenal Anomalies. Backstage makes it world premiere on the PianoFight Second Stage on Feb 16, 17, 23, & 24, all at 7pm.
