Avocado Dye Workshop with Roxanne Young

Join us Thursday, September 20th at 7 p.m. (during our Pop Up with Handheld Handmade) for an evening of learning a unique natural dying technique using avocado pits! Fiber artist, Roxanne Young of Roxanne Roxanne Designs will take you through the process of designing and dying four organic cotton dinner napkins. She will talk about the benefits of organic cotton, scouring, mordanting, and modifying and different tie-dye techniques. The beauty of this craft is you get to add beautiful shades of pinks, purples, and greys to fabric by using the byproduct of a delicious and nutritious food. You will be given enough avocado pits and a step by step guide to take home with you to try the project again to revive an old garment or add color to a new piece.

Roxanne has been dying fabric and cotton rope with plants for two years. She focuses on the medicinal qualities of the plants as well as the environmental benefits to plant dyes and the slow fashion movement

This two-hour workshop includes all materials, wine, snacks and you’ll get a discount on merchandise in the store that night.
