Individuation can be understood as a series of initiations that occur over the course of a lifetime. Psychologically speaking, this development has been explained by various theories including Freud's psychosexual stages and Erikson's psychosocial stages as a progression that integrates the mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual facets of the self to engage the world. For this program, the focus will be upon early adult to midlive, using astrology to help comprehend the archetypal energy that is to be integrated by the invididual.
Adult astrological cycles involve the outer planets beginning with Saturn, which ushers in the Senex and thus sets up the primary adult psychological structure, followed by concurrent stages of breakdown and rebirth as represented by the planets Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. Imagery, music, and case material will be utilized to illustrate the different stages of development and, ultimately, aspects of individuation.
Mr. Borutta will present a timeline from his own individuation process using astrological charts, journal entries, dreamwork, and performance from his solo work, "Nobody's Bitch."
