HOLDING SPACE: Supporting Local Communities through Art

Tuesday, May 1 | 6:30-8:30 pm

SFMOMA's 4th Floor Gina and Stuart Peterson White Box Theater

This May, SFMOMA’s Modern Art Council invites you to the second panel discussion in the 2018 ArtBites series. Presented in collaboration with Facebook Artist in Resident Program (FB AIR), this special event brings together leading cultural producers to explore the ways in which art, design, and critical thinking are integrated into our daily lives.

Join us for an evening of craft cocktails, seasonal bites, and engaging discussion, addressing how the arts impact and strengthen Bay Area communities, and how we can support these communities in a time of fiscal instability and social upheaval.

The event will be moderated by:

+ Dena Beard, executive director of The Lab.

Panelists include:

+ Maria Jensen, executive director of SOMArts

+ Xandra Ibarra (La Chica Boom), performance artist and community organizer

+ Drew Bennett, founder and director, Facebook Artist in Residence Program (FB AIR)

SFMOMA’s ArtBites lecture series pairs seasonal bites and beverages with thought-provoking discussions, centered around art, design, and community. The series is presented by the Modern Art Council, which has served as SFMOMA’s primary fund-raising auxiliary for over 85 years. Proceeds support the museum’s exhibitions and educational programming, enabling the museum to serve more than 60,000 students, teachers, and families each year.
