AROUND: WATCH & ACT Actionable Documentary – Berkeley

SEE EVENT DETAILS
at Neyborly Poet's Corner (see times)
Have you ever seen a movie that inspired you to take action, but as soon as the lights came on your motivation vanished? We make beautiful inspiring films, but we do not let you step out into a busy street without teaching you simple skills for change first. At our screenings, right there and then, we forge tools for positive action out of the excitement our films provoke.

FILM SCREENING & BREAD BAKE FOR SOCIAL CHANGE
Appreciate people around you with homemade loaf of bread. Just in time for Thanksgiving, make Challah bread for your neighbors - no prior baking experience required! While the dough is rising, watch Around (2019), an inspiring documentary about why individuals of different cultures, self-identities and stages of life from the San Francisco Bay Area, are making time in their busy lives to bake Challah bread.

WATCH
Be inspired by Around (2019), a beautifully crafted film about being in the moment and about extending oneself to create meaningful relationships. It combines raw interviews with fifteen Challah bread bakers and abstract imagery that accentuates the contemplative reflections on the meaning of a ritual.

Challah is the bread Jews share on Shabbat. Shabbat is the Jewish day-of-rest. There is no one recipe for the Challah, because countless calls for connection and peace have been kneaded into this bread all around the world for centuries.
The film is as much an art as it is an inspiring story.

ACT
By the time you leave Around: Watch & Act with ready-to-bake loaves, you will have jump-started your mindful bread baking routine that will lead you towards meaningful connections with people around you.

Our recipe is not a recipe for a perfect loaf. It is a recipe for a healing experience of being present in the moment and making something with your hands in the time you can afford. It is a recipe for an easy way to extend yourself to connect with others.

This Thanksgiving, reach out to your neighbors. Nothing says 'You are welcome in my life' better than homemade loaf of bread. Whether a host or a guest, pass around the table your freshly made loaf. The smell will turn any house into a home.
