Katherine Kunhiraman lived and studied dance in India for twelve years, and performed her debut recital in April of 1969. This spring, Kalanjali celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of her "Arangetram" with a re-creation of that program, performed by her students from Lafayette and Berkeley, where Kalanjali conducts their classes in Bharatanatyam.
Running Time: approx. 2 hours, with one intermission
Bharatanatyam is the most ancient of India's classical dance styles, and has grown in the past hundred years into the most popular in India and best known Indian dance style abroad.
