Andre & Dorine

SEE EVENT DETAILS
May 7-17, Thurs-Sat. at 7:30pm, Sundays at 2 pm

Kulunka Teatro, Spain's Premiere Mask and Physical Theatre Company, returns to the U.S. with the internationally acclaimed "Andre & Dorine," a poignant depiction of the enduring love between an elderly couple as their lives are disrupted, but not overcome, by dementia. Performed by Kulunka Teatro which received the 2018 Premios Max Award for BEST PLAY (the Spanish equivalent of a Tony Award), "Andre & Dorine" is a non-verbal theatre piece using movement, puppetry, and mask to celebrate the shared lives of two artists - Andre with his typewriter, Dorine with her cello - and how they relive and reinvent their love as Alzheimer's becomes a permanent part of their relationship. Performances are May 7-17 at San Francisco's Brava Theater in San Francisco.

"Andre & Dorine," which premiered in the US in 2012 at the Adrienne Arch Center in Miami, has toured extensively in Spain, South America, the United States (New York, Los Angeles, Baltimore, Mami and Albuquerque), China and Europe, visiting over 30 countries in nine years. After these San Francisco performances, the show will be presented at The Latino Theater Company in Los Angeles May 21-June 7, followed by performances in New York at Theatre at Saint Clement's July 9-August 9. For complete North American Tour information, go to https://www.andreanddorinetour.com

Only three actors -- Garbine Insausti, Jose Dault and Edu Carcamo, directed by Inaki Rikarte -- recreate upwards of fifteen characters between them in this non-verbal play. In a small room, the frenetic tapping of a typewriter forms its own curious ballad with the persistent notes of a cello. We see an elderly couple who have fallen into oblivion, forgetting what brought them together. On the walls hangs the past, the sole reminder of what they once shared. What unfolds is a glimpse into the past that will help them build a new present, though it might be too late.

$20-$40.

Presented by Kulunka Teatro.
