"An Evening with Groucho" starring Frank Ferrante

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Hailed by the New York Times as the “greatest living interpreter of Groucho Marx’ material,” Frank Ferrante brings his acclaimed portrayal of the legendary comedian in “An Evening with Groucho” to Downtown San Jose’s 3Below Theaters & Lounge for two nights only, April 6 and 7.

Accompanied by an onstage pianist, Ferrante portrays the young Marx of stage and film, while reacquainting the audience with the likes of his brothers (Harpo, Chico, Zeppo and Gummo) as well as Charlie Chaplin, W.C. Fields, Greta Garbo, MGM’s Louis B. Mayer, and Marx foil Margaret Dumont.

The two-act, fast paced 90-minute comedy, is filled with Marx’s funniest one-liners, anecdotes and songs including, “Hooray for Captain Spaulding” and “Lydia, the Tattooed Lady,” and is perfect for comedy fans of all ages. The audience literally becomes part of the show as Ferrante ad-libs his way throughout the performance in grand Groucho style.

Ferrante has been praised for being “eerily good” (USA Today), and the show lauded as “an affectionate, funny and unsentimental portrait…a truly delightful show” (Hollywood Reporter) and “Artful…” (The New York Times). And while the critics can’t get enough of Ferrante's portrayal, the true testament of his ability to channel Marx comes directly from Marx’s desendants. Arthur Marx, Groucho’s son and co-author of Groucho: A Life in Revue raves, “Nobody does Groucho better than Frank Ferrante.” Mariam Marx Allen, Groucho’s daughter says, “Frank doesn’t just do Groucho…he is Groucho.”
