Amy Seiwert's Imagery presents SKETCH 11:Interrupted

SEE EVENT DETAILS
October 22, 7:30 pm PST

Amy Seiwert's Imagery, a contemporary ballet company co-presents with ODC the digital premiere of its eleventh annual SKETCH series, entitled SKETCH 11: Interrupted. Featuring world premieres by Artistic Director Amy Seiwert and Artistic Fellow Ben Needham-Wood.

In SKETCH 11, Artistic Director Amy Seiwert and Artistic Fellow Ben Needham-Wood will "interrupt" each other by exchanging active feedback during the creation process of their new ballets. The original concept for 2020's SKETCH 10: Wrecked was inspired by the Wrecking process developed by choreographer Susan Rethorst. That concept, which would have included six choreographers, had to be scrapped and reconsidered due to COVID. SKETCH 11: Interrupted pays homage to the worldwide disruption of the pandemic and reconceives Imagery's original plan on a smaller scale. Seiwert and Needham-Wood will use specific tools of deconstruction and reconstruction to expose the inner workings of each piece and lay bare each choreographer's conscious and unconscious habits. Choreography can often happen in isolated ways, and this type of structured feedback disrupts that isolation to open up avenues of imagination and possibility.

SKETCH 11 is the culmination of Needham-Wood's multi-year fellowship with Amy Seiwert's Imagery. As Artistic Fellow, Needham-Wood created an original work for SKETCH 9: Perspective and a dance film, What the Body Holds, for SKETCH Films: Red Thread. The administrative experience and creative mentorship he received will support his ongoing work with dance and media projects. Imagery's next Artistic Fellow will be announced following SKETCH 11.

$25-$55.

Presented by Amy Seiwert's Imagery.
