AMWA Northern California Annual Membership Meeting 26 January 2019
Featuring Josh Schechtel, MD, MPH: Opportunities for Medical Writers in Continuing Medical Education
Register by 21 January on Eventbrite (eventbrite.com and the rest)
Please join us at the Delancey Street restaurant in San Francisco for the Annual Membership Meeting of AMWA Northern California.
After a delicious lunch and the opportunity to network with fellow medical writers, President Sandra Ruhl, RN, will update members on the status of our chapter. We will then hear Josh Schechtel MD, MPH, who will describe opportunities for medical writers in the field of Continuing Medical Education (CME).
Josh will give an overview of the history of CME in the US and how we got to the very regulated state we’re in now. He will explain the different types of CME and describe the role of the medical writer and opportunities in CME writing. He will outline the regulations that apply to the authors’ disclosure of financial and other conflicts of interest, an important topic for freelancers working for a commercial sponsor. He will be open to questions about the theory and practice of adult education. Josh’s presentation will include audience participation, prizes, and even a few slides.
Josh has 25 years of experience translating medical information into useful, easy-to-understand content for professional and lay audiences. He has directed a large CME program and performed expert chart reviews.
